Paid upgrade
Run or reverse a paid upgrade on a hotel reservation, and see room-rate and folio changes.
Upgrade the booked room type for a fee before or after check-in when inventory and link rules allow. Reverse only before check-in and only if dates were not changed after the upgrade.
Entry: Console → Room reservations → reservation details → paid-upgrade banner Upgrade, or Basic info → More → Paid upgrade.
Prerequisites
- Reservation is not yet checked in or is in-house (see scenarios below). Menu entry is available until the first night audit.
- Not checked in: room not reserved, no linked reservation; banner also requires no prior paid/complimentary upgrade and recommended room-type inventory not zero.
- In-house: no linked reservation; you must pick a vacant clean room.
- Reverse: only when not checked in and a paid upgrade was applied; fails if dates were changed after the upgrade.
Booked room type vs occupied room type:
- With no upgrade, booked and occupied room types match the type at booking.
- After a complimentary upgrade (change occupied type), booked type stays the same; occupied type updates and shows a marker.
- After a paid upgrade, both booked and occupied types become the upgraded type; booked type shows a marker.

Scenarios that block paid upgrade
Not checked in, no paid upgrade yet, but room already reserved
Dialog shows a message; paid upgrade is blocked.
Not checked in, no paid upgrade, room not reserved, but a linked reservation exists; or in-house with a linked reservation
Dialog shows a message; paid upgrade is blocked.
Scenarios that allow paid upgrade
Not checked in, no paid upgrade, room not reserved, no linked reservation
Dialog lists booked type, occupied type, and upgradeable types. Booked type and types with no availability are grayed out. Available count is vacant clean rooms covering the stay (excluding sublets).
Hover the marker after the rate difference for post-upgrade rate details. Click Refresh recommendations (top right) to refresh availability and difference. Select a type and click Confirm.
In-house, no paid upgrade, no linked reservation
Same as above, plus a room picker. The list shows all vacant rooms; vacant dirty rooms cannot be selected — only vacant clean. Select type and room, then Confirm.
If inventory hits zero or the difference changes when you click Confirm, the system errors. Click Refresh recommendations, review, and try again.
Reverse supported
Not checked in, paid upgrade already applied
After a 10-second countdown, click Reset to reverse. If a room was reserved, that reservation is canceled too. After reverse, booked type stays; only the surcharge (difference) is removed.
Reverse fails if dates were changed after the paid upgrade. After reverse, paid upgrade is not offered again.
Reverse not supported
In-house, paid upgrade already applied
Dialog shows a message; reverse is blocked.
Result
After a paid upgrade:
- Room rates: base rate stays original; surcharge is the paid-upgrade difference; daily total is the upgraded total.
- Transactions: two lines — original room charge and surcharge.
- Registration card: upgraded total and surcharge.
- Change dates dialog: extended nights quote the upgraded room type.
If the system says the rate plan does not apply to the current chargeable room type, you cannot extend this reservation — create a new reservation and link it instead.
